In a study published June 5, 2017, in Cell Metabolism, Suneil Koliwad, MD, PhD, the Gerold Grodsky, PhD/JAB Chair in Diabetes Research, reported his team’s findings that immune cells in the brain may trigger overeating and weight gain in response to diets rich in fat.
According to Dr. Koliwad, these immune cells may “represent an untapped and completely novel way to target the brain in order to potentially mitigate obesity and its health consequences,” including type 2 diabetes.
